In questo volume, per fare omaggio alla ricca storia naturale ed artistica dell’Alta Valle del Tevere, sono messe a confronto le specie e varietà vegetali, ritrovate dall’autrice in anni di ricerca, e conservati nella collezione di Archeologia Arborea a Città di Castello, con la loro rappresentazione artistica a partire dal 1500 quando Vasari consigliava ai pittori, suoi collaboratori, di tenere ‘innanzi frutte naturali per ritrarle dal vivo’.
Le presenze vegetali sono confermate dallo studio dei documenti presso l’Archivio Bufalini di San Giustino. Arricchiscono il volume le note di studio su affreschi e archivi, di Giuditta Rossi per la Soprintendenza per i Beni Storici Artistici ed Etnoantropologici dell’Umbria e di Mario Squadroni per la Soprintendenza Archivistica dell’ Umbria. Antonio Cianciullo, giornalista di La Repubblica, dona uno scritto su Archeologia Arborea, frutteto di vecchie varietà dalla quale sono state ripresi i numerosi vegetali rari ritratti in questo volume
In this book, to pay homage to the rich natural and artistic history of the Upper Tiber Valley, plant species and varieties are compared, found by the author in years of research, and preserved in the Arboreal Archeology collection in Città di Castello, with their artistic representation starting from 1500 when Vasari advised the painters, his collaborators, to keep “ beholding natural fruits to portraiy lively pictures of them”.
The plant presences are confirmed by the study of the documents at the Bufalini Archive of San Giustino. The volume is enriched by the study notes on frescoes and archives, by Giuditta Rossi for the Superintendence for the Historical, Artistic and Ethno-anthropological Heritage of Umbria and by Mario Squadroni for the Archival Superintendence of Umbria. Antonio Cianciullo, journalist of La Repubblica, gives a paper on Archeology Arborea, an orchard of old varieties from which the numerous rare plants portrayed in this book have been taken
